Lifestyle Medicine

Hippocrates, considered as the father of lifestyle medicine, realised the medicinal benefits of lifestyle 2,500 years ago.

Lifestyle medicine is one of the newest branches of evidence-based medicine. By focusing on the root causes of diseases it recommends comprehensive lifestyle changes to treat, prevent or slow down the progression of chronic diseases.

The cornerstone of Synergolab’s mission is to take a stand on the issues of lifestyle medicine by using the evidence-based and a holistic approach. By identifying the underlying causes of the diseases of our civilisation, we wish to take on an increasing role in preventing, treating or slowing down the progression of chronic diseases with our complex functional products and lifestyle interventions (including nutrition, physical activity, stress management, social support and environmental exposure).

In order to fulfil its mission, SYNERGOLAB is continuously searching for potential dialogue and cooperation with other operators within the lifestyle sector. We strongly believe in creating the harmony of body, mind and spirit through conscious lifestyle choices.

Lifestyle diseases:

  • obesity, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes
  • cardiovascular diseases, stroke, heart attack, hypertension
  • malignant tumours (especially certain types, such as colorectal cancer)
  • neurodegenerative diseases
  • depression
  • gout
  • arthrosis (chronic wear of cartilage)

In the modern world the key to health lies in our lifestyle

This new, lifestyle-based medicine is not in sharp contrast to the usual, so-called western medicine. It must be noted that the two branches can work closely with each other, because their goal is the same. The difference mainly lies in their approach and content. While western medicine manages individual risks, the other method searches for the root causes in the lifestyle.

The most prominent difference between the two is that in western medicine the patient is just a passive subject of the treatment and the result is in the hands of the physician, who chooses from the known and available arsenal of treatments the one that in his or her view is the most appropriate for eliminating the given disease, while the patient’s living conditions and lifestyle can only be factored in to a minimal degree.

Lifestyle medicine on the other hand focuses on changing the patient’s lifestyle, which is only possible with the patient’s active participation. The patient’s active input is essential for changing bad habits, without which his or her health cannot be restored or preserved. The physician in this case is part of a team, helping the patient to become ready for the lifestyle changes physically, mentally and spiritually, which then will lead to curing the primary disease and improving the quality of life.
